Sports

SWIMMING

All the children go to St. James' Street Pool in Taunton once a week throughout the year. Careful instruction is given at all levels and many attain a high standard, acquiring a good number of ASA awards. We ask for a voluntary contribution to cover costs, currently £2.00 per week.

North Newton was awarded the 2002 Kelloggs Shield for its commitment to swimming at the ASA Gala Awards Dinner in Northampton.
NETBALL

The children enjoy netball during the autumn and spring terms. Practice sessions are held on Mondays from 3.15-4.15 p.m.

League matches and rallies regularly take place against other local schools in the area.
ROUNDERS

Through the summer term the children enjoy rounders. The game is played on the village playing field and practice sessions are held on Monday afternoons from 3.15-4.15 p.m.
FOOTBALL

The football team play in competitive league and cup matches in both autumn and spring terms against other local schools. Coaching is available for Years 1-6 on Tuesdays with a qualified football coach.
TABLE TENNIS

Children in years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to be coached in table tennis in the village hall on Thursdays.
CRICKET

Cricket is taught by a Somerset County Cricket Coach to children in Classes 2 and 3. There is an opportunity for children in these classes to have additional training after school at a cost of £20.00 for a 10 week session during the summer term.

Competitive matches are played with both hard and soft ball cricket available. The school reached the finals of the 6-A-Side Hard Ball Tournament in 2002.
